In this blogpost, we’re going to talk all about how you can streamline your website projects! We all know that in the realm of brand and website design, keeping projects on track is absolutely crucial. So, how can we prevent those pesky delays and keep our clients engaged and happy throughout the process?
Tune into Episode 105 of Behind the Design for more tips but for now, let’s break down some of my top strategies into actionable steps that you can start implementing today.
Setting Boundaries That Stick
First things first: boundaries are non-negotiable. The website kickoff call is where the magic happens. Before diving into design, I make sure all the necessary materials are on the table. Late submissions? Not on my watch. This call sets the tone for the entire project and ensures everyone is on the same page from day one.
Setting clear expectations from the get-go is very important. My go-to tactic is to implement a re-consultation fee for clients who disappear into the void for three weeks. It’s a gentle nudge that reminds clients of their commitment to the project timeline and keeps things moving forward. When clients have skin in the game, they’re more likely to stay engaged and responsive throughout the project. It’s a win-win for everyone involved.
Overcommunication is Key
Don’t be afraid to overcommunicate! Designers need to be proactive in offering support to clients, especially when it comes to tricky tasks like sourcing photographers or crafting compelling copy. By being readily available and providing clear instructions, you can keep the momentum going strong.
Keep the Momentum Rolling
Regular check-ins are a must. I recommend weekly updates to keep clients in the loop and gently remind them of their next steps. And when it comes to feedback, make it easy for clients to chime in with their thoughts and suggestions.
Streamline Your Process
Designing in stages can save you a world of headaches. Presenting websites in manageable chunks is an important tactic, making it easier for you to gather feedback and make revisions as needed. It’s all about efficiency, folks.
Show ‘Em Who’s Boss
Last but not least, assert your expertise at every turn. Stick to your timelines, enforce deadlines, and watch as your professionalism shines through. Clients will appreciate your commitment to delivering top-notch results on time, every time.
Project management is a game-changer for any designer looking to up their game. So go ahead, put these actionable steps into practice, and watch your professionalism shine and your projects finish smoothly.
